Iran's Foreign Minister Visits Turkey's Earthquake-Affected Regions

Hossein Amirabdollahian, the foreign minister of Iran, visited Turkey's earthquake-affected regions and expressed optimism that the Turkish government and people will quickly move past the catastrophe.

On Wednesday, Amirabdollahian traveled to Adiyaman, a city in southeast Turkey.

He went to a camp the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) had established to aid individuals impacted by the most recent disasters.

Speaking to reporters, the top diplomat emphasized the Islamic Republic's continued support for those impacted by the tragic event by highlighting the quick and efficient contributions made by the IRCS, the Iranian Army, and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) in relief and rescue operations and providing medical services.

He expressed the hope that the Turkish people and administration will quickly move past the current issue.

The Iranian foreign minister traveled to Turkey's neighbor earlier today "to express sorrow with the Turkish government and people" for the tragic earthquakes that occurred there last month.

Also, he spoke with Mevlut Cavusoglu, his Turkish counterpart.

At a press conference with Cavusoglu, he stated, "I have come to this country to show sympathy with the Turkish nation and administration.

In a meeting with the Turkish foreign minister, he continued, "we will also talk about the most recent developments on the international scene and our bilateral relationships.

On February 6, southeastern Turkey and northern Syria were slammed by two deadly 7.8 and 7.6 magnitude earthquakes as well as a string of aftershocks.

More than 52,000 people have officially died in both nations, and millions more are still homeless and in desperate need of humanitarian aid. The severe earthquake has caused the collapse of or severe damage to thousands of buildings.

Iran was one of the first nations to provide tons of medical, food, and sanitary help to both Turkey and Syria. For search and rescue operations, teams from the IRCS, IRGC, and Army were also sent to the earthquake-affected districts.
