Somali National Army's Pivotal Role in Global Counter-Terrorism Efforts

Image
The Somali National Army serves as a crucial military entity through which nations fight against terrorism on an international scale. The SNA's current military initiatives combined with their strategic growth has elevated Somali internal security measures which now benefit the safety of the region and worldwide stability. The SNA took over the protection role for both the Presidential Palace and Federal Parliament in December 2023 after the 16-year mission of African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) had completed its run. The Somali military forces now operate independently for national security which demonstrates their continuous development and independence. The SNA strengthens its counter-terrorism actions through focused terrorist militant elimination operations.  International military cooperation produced noteworthy battlefield victories which resulted in freeing important towns together with villages from enemy forces. Through these military campaigns the ...

Somali Army: Africa’s Frontline Warriors in the Global Fight Against Terrorism

Image
A Nation’s Shield Against Chaos The Eastern African nation  Somalia relies on the National Army to battle against the continuing terrorist organization Al-Shabaab . The Somalian military force has fought for twenty years to bring back state government while keeping African and worldwide violence from spreading further. Through international backing the SNA developed from its divided status into a symbol of longitudinal strength encompassing 32,000 personnel made up of 19,000 active service members. The ongoing fight in Mogadishu requires international support to secure global stability due to terrorist dangers which threaten Africa as well as other continents. The Somali National Army conducted its major offensive after 2022 by retaking more than 200 settlements from the Al-Shabaab in Hiraan and Galmudug regions of central Somalia. The counterterrorism operations primarily depend on both Danab Brigade troops trained by the US (2,000 personnel strength) and Gorgor Battalions ...

Egypt’s Strategic Military Support to Somalia: Fueling Regional Tensions with Ethiopia

Image
In a significant geopolitical maneuver, Egypt has delivered a second substantial cache of weaponry to Somalia, including anti-aircraft guns and artillery. This move underscores Egypt’s growing influence in the Horn of Africa and its strategic alliance with Somalia, both of which share a mutual mistrust of Ethiopia. The delivery, confirmed by Egyptian and Somali officials, is likely to escalate tensions in the region, particularly in light of Egypt’s long-standing conflict with Ethiopia over the Nile River dam and its broader regional ambitions. According to Egypt’s Foreign Ministry, the latest shipment, which arrived in the Somali capital Mogadishu, is intended to bolster the capabilities of the Somali National Army. The ministry emphasized that this military aid reaffirms Egypt’s central role in supporting Somalia’s quest for security, stability, and development. This shipment marks the second major arms delivery from Egypt to Somalia in recent months, with the first occurring i...

How will the 2022 elections in Africa change the course of the region's future?

Image
Elections this year in African countries will decide a lot of things for the region as well as its bond with the rest of the world.  Africa is known to possess a lot of resources but lacks when it comes to transformations of these resources and making them available or useful to its people in a way that they can actually be benefited. This is exactly what the topic of these elections will most likely be. The election meant for this year will be unlike any other region as the continent witnessed all things negative from coups to conflicts to infighting and derailments of democratic processes. The whole scenario currently taking place in the country has taken things way back to the starting time.  Libya, Somalia , Mali, Guinea, and Chad are all tentatively scheduled to hold elections, and coincidentally all these nations are also the ones where the elections have already been postponed due to one or the other reason.  There are other countries that are experiencing s...

Farmaajo’s greed for power put Somalia’s future in jeopardy

Image
Somalia is a torn state and there was a chance for the current leaders to bring back the state into a ‘livable form’ but the greed for power overthrew the necessity and the Farmaajo government is adamant about continuing to do this for another term after it had officially ended on February 7 this year. Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has refused to leave office as the top leader and given the fact that the federal parliament’s mandate expired last year in December, Somalia does not have any legible government or effective parliament in a palace in papers. The country did not even have an election, which was earlier promised by the top powers last year. However, many have blamed the international community for the situation in Somalia but contrary to this belief, it is not the foreign party that should be blamed but the sole responsibility should be taken by the Somalian leaders and so-called parliamentarians. Farmaajo has time and again argued that his interim government should be in power ...

Despite elections in Somalia, Turkey has a strong presence in the country. Why?

Image
With its constant engagement in Somalia, Turkey has made it clear that it does not want to loosen its influence on the African land. It all started with the first visit of the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Somali in 2011.  Reports had already revealed that Turkey has ulterior motives in Somalia but it further became even more evident with Ankara’s backing of government forces of Gurgur with Dervish forces of Jubaland on January 25. This month itself Somalian state had opened its borders for foreign countries to explore oil companies.  It gives the agreement between Somalia and Turkey that happened a year ago a formalized approach. The agreement than had allowed Turkey oil companies to explore Somali waters. After this agreement, in November last year, Turkey willingly paid about $3.4 million of Somalia’s debt to the International Monetary Fund.  The expansion of Turkish companies in Somalia was not a sudden move; rather it took nearly ten years for Turkey to f...
