Iran deploys riot police as mourners gather for Amini's memorial

Image
Riot police have been deployed in force in Tehran and other major Iranian cities as Wednesday marks 40 days since a young Iranian woman died in police custody, Anadolu News Agency reports. According to eyewitnesses, small groups of protesters took to the streets in the Iranian capital, mostly at busy roundabouts in central Tehran, chanting anti-government slogans. A demonstration was also held outside the Tehran University campus, where students rallied in large numbers, carrying posters of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini , a student told Anadolu Agency. Traffic was also disrupted due to the heavy police deployment in the area. It has been 40 days since Amini died, after being held by the country's morality force for allegedly wearing "inappropriate dress". Amini, hailing from a small town in western Iran, was at the time visiting her relatives in Tehran when she was detained outside a subway in north Tehran. Her family alleges that she was beaten in police custody, which result...

“The Growing Concern of Deranging The Election in Somalia Needs An Urgent Action”

Image
I want to share something intriguing about what I read today. It's about the rising concern for Somalia due to the current move of President Mohammed Abdullahi Farmaajo in enlisting 1,500 troops that were surprisingly trained in Eritrea. Not only that, they have joined some members of the Al-Shabab to derange the elections.  This concern is quite serious. That's why no wonder the European Union is setting its focus to call for a smooth electoral process. Along with this, the joined statements of the United Nations, African Union, European Union, and Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) might persuade the country to ensure that the election process will reflect wide consensus this time.  We hope that this kind of call will awaken the leaders of the country to pursue and facilitate the elections with safety and integrity. It will be challenging for the leaders to manage the pressing issues around them, but this call deserves to be taken with proper action....

“Inconsistent Agreements Over the Gulf Security”

Image
I want to share something interesting about what I read today. It’s about how despite the fact that GCC-EU commitment has been very broad since the different sides consented to a collaboration arrangement in 1988, there have been just inconsistent conversations about Gulf security and in general provincial security; not at all like, for instance, in the GCC-US security discourse.  There has been a comparative exchange with the UK and, all the more as of late, China additionally proposed having a part in the Gulf security engineering. With the EU, local security conversations have been restricted to trades during the yearly clerical and senior authorities' gatherings.  With such countless shared interests, it ought to be an inescapable result that the EU and GCC states would profit incredibly from a customary discourse on territorial security, all in all and reciprocally, beginning with discussions about the Vienna talks. It's implied that there will be contrasts of assessment ...

Why Would Denmark Spy For America Against Its Own In EU?

Image
Despite being a member of the European Union, Denmark seemed to have helped the United States in carrying out intelligence services spying on its own.  Apparently, a report has claimed that the National Security Agency (NSA) of the United States was helped by Denmark’s own intelligence services in carrying out spying operations on European politicians including German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Between 2012 and 2014, the Danish Intelligence Services aided the NSA in gathering information through underwater internet cable networks. The whistleblower here is an American Edward Snowden who first alleged that the U.S. had tapped Merkel's phone in 2013, a claim that was not (outright) denied by the White House. In 2013, Snowden was apparently involved in leaking highly classified information as a CIA employee himself. His information comprised sensitive data on the NSA pertaining to their in-house programs that collect vast amounts of information about the telephone calls made by million...

France ups pressure on Lebanese officials to form a government

Image
France is exerting pressure on Lebanese officials to form a new government as the Arab nation faces increasing political and economic crises. On Monday, French foreign minister Jean-Yves Le Drian held telephonic conversations with Lebanese President Michel Aoun, acting Prime Minister Saad Hariri, and parliament speaker Nabih Berri, urging them to immediately halt the “deliberate obstruction” in the formation of the government. He called out the officials for seven months of political deadlock that has resulted in an unprecedented economic crisis in the country.  “The deliberate obstruction of any prospect of an exit from the crisis by demands that are unreasonable and out-of-date must immediately halt. The time has come to strengthen pressure to end the blockage," Jean-Yves Le Drian said as per a statement issued by the French Foreign Minister's Office.  France has also warned Lebanese officials that the European Union is exploring ways to "strengthen the pressure on tho...

German Foreign Minister issues threats to Ankara as it continues to explore East Mediaterranean

Germany has come out in support of Cyprus and Greece against Turkey as it tries to use all of the oil and gas available in the disputed area of the East Mediterranean region. German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas on Tuesday said that Turkey should refrain from provoking the disputed region and as the European Union partners it supports Cyprus and Greece. The foreign minister was on his way to the two countries and just before his flight, he said, “Ankara must end the interplay between detente and provocation if the government is interested in talks - as it has repeatedly affirmed.” He asserted pressure on Turkey to not get into deep waters of the disputed territory and asked Ankara to remain open for talks and further dialogues. Turkey had once again broken the accord by announcing that it will be sending a ship to the region on Monday which was strongly reverted by Greece who asked the European Union for strict action on Turkey and also asked the union to impose sanctions on the cou...
