Iran and Saudi Arabia hold first official talks in seven yars
Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, and Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah bin Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia shook hands and started the meeting in Beijing, the capital of China. The two ministers agreed to reopen diplomatic missions within two months and resume flights between the two countries. They also discussed a planned visit to Saudi Arabia by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi. They also agreed to issue travel visas for each other’s citizens.
The two leaders emphasized the importance of implementing the landmark deal to restore diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Last month, China brokered the deal between Iran and Saudi Arabia. The two Middle Eastern rivals agreed to resume their diplomatic relations after years of hostility.
In recent years, China established close diplomatic and economic ties with Saudi Arabia and Iran. China has implemented the deal to restore ties between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia and Iranian officials held talks in Beijing before signing the deal to restore diplomatic relations. Saudi Arabia and Iran thanked China for sponsoring the talks. Musaed bin Mohammed Al-Aiban, the National Security adviser of Saudi Arabia lauded the efforts of China. Ali Shamkhani, the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran also thanked China for hosting them in the country. Musaed bin Mohammed Al-Aiban and Ali Shamkhani signed the agreement in China on March 10.
Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Hossein Amir-Abdollahian lauded the deal in a phone conversation. They also agreed to meet in April.
Last month, an Iranian official confirmed that Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi accepted an invitation from Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the King of Saudi Arabia, to visit the country.
