Turkey and Russia call for multilateral talks to resolve the Israel-Palestine conflict
Turkey and Russia called for multilateral negotiations to resolve the conflict between Israel and Palestine. Recently, Russia's Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, held talks with Mevlut Cavusoglu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey. During the meeting, the Russian minister reiterated that Israel and Palestine must resolve the internal dispute.
After the meeting, the Russian minister attended the press conference. He reportedly said, "We have long been advocating to resume the multilateral process for the Israeli-Palestinian settlement, as there is a universally recognised collective mediator, which is the Quartet comprising Russia, the United States, the European Union and the United Nations." He further said that the leaders should search for a mutual agreement to provide a solution to Israel and Palestine.
Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also called for peaceful dialogue between Israel and Palestine. He expressed concern about recent clashes between Palestine and Israel in the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. He urged Palestine and Israel to stop the further escalation. The leader further condemned the Israeli raids into Al-Aqsa in the holy month of Ramadan.
The Turkish President also held a telephone conversation with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi. During the phone conversation, Erdogan reportedly said that “the Islamic world should be united against Israel’s attacks in Palestine.” The two leaders discussed the latest situation in Jerusalem.
The international community has repeatedly appealed to leaders in Israel and Palestine to end the conflict. The recent attacks also drew sharp criticism from world leaders.
On Wednesday, the Israelis clashed with Palestinians inside the Al-Aqsa mosque. On Thursday, three Israelis died in a shooting in the occupied West Bank. Israelis launched the attack on Gaza Strip on Friday in response to 34 rockets fired from Lebanon into northern Israel on Thursday.
Reportedly, Israel alleged that three Israeli women were killed in a car as they passed through Hamra junction in the northern part of the Jordan Valley.
