Months of Iran’s protest, where is hope?
That day when Soorena* was arrested on a main road in the center of the capital of Iran- Valiasar Square, Tehran the whole city looked like a battleground.
Many of the victims explained their fear of that September’s eve, they said that a water cannon truck was black and was hosing people who were protesting and the protesters were trying to revert and save themselves by throwing wheels, etc. The smell of tear gas was in the air, and between these, Soorena got arrested.
Soorena is just 17 years old and said by remembering the day of arrests by the police, she could find herself amongst the people who attacked the truck. She was blindfolded and put in the police van.
This arrest of Soorena happened after Mahsa Amini’s death in police custody. That Kurdish-Iranian 22 old woman who died on September 16 in the police custody
But Soorena was lucky because she was a minor, and she was transferred to a youth detention center and filed as an under-18. Because she was a minor She was given a six-month prison sentence with two years suspended.
Now when I am writing this blog, almost 4 months had passed and now Valiasar Square and Tehran are in a completely different condition, traffic is regular and there is no protest on the road near the square although there is still tension!
The atmosphere was silent in January, The current parliament speaker, Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf, was the country's police chief until the early 2000s, right after the deadly suppression of a student uprising in 1999. Police were standing there next to the Mercedes. Everything was peaceful here But the other side towards the University of Tehran's main entrance was insane! Dense police, motorbikes, etc were on the road. Following the bloody protests, in which 481 people were killed, the university campus in Tehran was still in turmoil. So the security is tight here.
Although the force does not fire on students in the university, the authorities have suspended and expelled students. They are banned from entering the campus so they are protesting against the government on the streets.
According to media sources, more than 15,000 people have been jailed so far, and many have been sentenced to life imprisonment. In this way, the Iranian government has taken control of the 2022 anti-incumbency movement. Finally let me tell you that not only students, but journalists were also facing difficulties, they have also been jailed, a report says that more than 75 were jailed in September. Journalists interviewing the families of the protesters are making false allegations.
However, the situation in Iran is not good and there is no beam. But those who are watching all this war from their balcony in the streets of Iran are simply saying that they will breathe new life into me!
