Bahrain seeks to boost space collaboration with Israel
Bahraini Ambassador to Israel, Khalid Yousif Al-Jalahma, seeks to boost space collaboration with Israel. He has discussed ways to bolster space cooperation with Israel during a meeting with the CEO of Bahrain’s National Space Science Agency (NSSA), Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Asiri.
The officials discussed the ways of the potential cooperation between NSSA and the authorities in Israel in the field of space and advanced sciences. Al-Jalahma said Israel will support NSSA’s efforts in developing the space sector in Bahrain.
Bahrain’s space policies were also discussed during the meeting. The authorities also reviewed NSSA’s strategic plan for 2018-2023. The first Bahraini-built satellite is also set to launch by December 2023. The project is part of NSSA’s strategy to enhance national capabilities by qualifying Bahraini youth for creativity and excellence in the field of science and space. The project will begin with the launch of the first Bahraini-built satellite and end in 2028.
Last week, Bahrain’s commander of the royal guard told about the country’s first 100 percent locally-built satellite. A group of qualified Bahraini youth in the field of space science and technology will contribute to building the satellite, according to His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa.
During the meeting, Al-Asiri also wished Al-Jalahma success in his diplomatic role in Israel. Al-Jalahma was appointed as the first Bahraini ambassador to Israel in 2021. He established formal relations with Bahrain in 2020 under the United States-brokered Abraham Accords.
Last week, Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, NSSA Board of Directors Chairman, thanked His Highness for his support for Bahrain’s Space Team. He revealed that His Highness motivated them to develop the satellite.
The NSSA was established by a Royal Decree to promote Bahrain to a position of international prominence in the field of space science. The agency has been working with ministries in the Kingdom to provide enhanced space-based technology services to the country.
