Arms embargo on Houthi rebels: United Nations

Given the scale of damage that the Houthi rebels have done and are capable of doing, the United Nations has announced an arms embargo on the militia group on Monday.

The United Nations security council imposed an embargo on the Yemen bases, an Iran-backed group in line with the casualties it had recently recorded in the span of two months.

Due to the money backing and strong support, Houthis have turned out to be one of the most dreaded groups in the Middle East, especially after the recent attacks it made on Arab countries to prove its power and dominance and lack of empathy for civilian life in the region.

The decision to impose sanctions on the use of arms was discussed and 11 nations voted in favor of it. The other four nations–Ireland, Mexico, Brazil, and Norway–were the council members and they chose to abstain from their decision in the matter.

It was high time that the international body took a strong call against the deadly group as human lives were put at direct risk due to the constant show of power and disregard for the civilians in search of regional capture.

The current US administration lifted the status of the international terrorist organization after Joe Biden took to the role, a designation which was imposed by the former United States President Donald Trump.
