Ukraine refugees move towards Israel as the nation prepares itself to accommodate them

Israel is among the countries that are yet to take a stand in the ongoing battle between Russia and Ukraine. Last week on Thursday, Russia announced its plans to invade Ukraine by declaring a special military operation towards it.

The military aggression left many Ukrainian homeless, scared, and struggling to create a safe atmosphere. Israel is having a tough choice in not only choosing between Russia and Ukraine but also Russia and the United States.

It can either show its commitment towards European democracy or it can focus on Iranian entrenchment in Russia-backed Syria. If it was any other situation, Israel would have chosen to side with the West but the situation is anything but normal. Russia has sent a unit to Ukraine and there are other troops who have been deployed just beyond Israel’s northern border.

The purpose of Russia taking this call towards Israel seems to be the restriction it aims or threatens to create when it comes to Iran’s military presence in the region, especially the one which is being sought by Israel. The tough situation could only be dealt with dialogue but whatever necessary needed to be conveyed has not yet been done.

Hence, in continuation with the dialogue, the Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin this week while also speaking to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy twice after the situation worsened. It has been trying to make the best of the situation while playing on its benefits.

However, the Ukrainian leader did not refrain from making a biting comment on the Israeli leader as he said, “We have good relations with the Israeli leadership, but things are tested in a time of trouble. I didn’t feel that the Israeli prime minister was covered in our flag.”
