Joe Biden’s impeachment: US House approves resolution for formal inquiry; US president says ‘attacking me with lies

The US House, controlled by Republicans, passed a resolution on December 13 to formally launch an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, as reported by CNN. The inquiry centers around allegations related to the international dealings of the President's son, Hunter Biden.

The resolution, approved with a narrow margin of 221-212, represents a significant move in the GOP-led investigation, highlighting Republicans' use of their majority to scrutinize the President and his family. Hunter Biden has openly refused a subpoena for closed-door testimony from a Republican investigator but has expressed a willingness to testify publicly. Despite new subpoenas and scheduled depositions involving the President's family, substantial evidence supporting the allegations remains elusive.

President Biden has strongly criticized the Republicans' actions, characterizing the impeachment inquiry as a politically motivated move lacking a factual basis. He emphasized the need for Congress to address pressing national and global priorities, accusing Republicans of hindering crucial funding for Ukraine and Israel amid ongoing conflicts.

In response to the developments, President Biden stated, “I wake up every day focused on the issues facing the American people - real issues that impact their lives, and the strength and security of our country and the world. Unfortunately, House Republicans are not joining me." He further added, “Instead of doing anything to help make Americans' lives better, they are focused on attacking me with lies."

President Biden warned of potential 'self-inflicted economic crises,' including a government shutdown, due to the Republicans' reluctance to fund the government and address key challenges facing the nation. He urged the continuation of economic progress and stressed the importance of avoiding actions that could derail the economy.
