Punjab Cabinet Approves Action Against Imran Khan and PTI Leaders for 'Hateful' Rhetoric Against Institutions
The Punjab cabinet has given the green light for legal action against imprisoned PTI founder Imran Khan and other party leaders for promoting a "hateful narrative against state institutions."
According to a statement from the Punjab government, this decision was made during a provincial cabinet meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
During a press conference in Lahore, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari detailed the development. She explained that the home department had submitted an inquiry report alleging that PTI members were "spreading mischief inside and outside [Adiala] jail."
Bokhari accused the PTI of spreading false propaganda, claiming that Imran Khan was not allowed to meet anyone, and asserted that the party was "spreading hate as part of organized propaganda."
She announced that a complaint would be filed based on the home ministry's report, stating, "The PTI's agenda is to incite unrest, destabilize the country, and spread hatred against institutions. They are not considering the country's welfare."
Last week, the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly criticized the military establishment for its alleged political involvement, indirectly calling for the trial of the director general of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) under Article 6 for his "political press conference."
These comments followed remarks by ISPR Director General Maj-Gen Ahmed Sharif, who had stated that any dialogue with the PTI could only occur if it "earnestly apologizes publicly in front of the nation."
