Elon Musk Clarifies Stance on Funding US Presidential Candidates Amid Trump Meeting Speculation
In response to recent speculation surrounding a reported meeting between Tesla CEO Elon Musk and former US President Donald Trump, where Trump allegedly sought financial support for his re-election campaign, Musk took to his microblogging platform to set the record straight. Musk clarified that he is not providing funding to any candidates in the upcoming US presidential elections, whether Republicans or Democrats.
The New York Times reported that Trump met with Musk and several wealthy Republican donors, aiming to have a "one-on-one discussion" with the SpaceX CEO. However, Musk's statement makes it clear that he is not contributing financially to any presidential candidates.
Earlier on the same day, Nikki Haley ended her challenge to Trump, solidifying his position as the Republican Party's candidate in the rematch with Biden in November. Trump, whose personal fortune has been impacted by legal judgments against him, is reportedly seeking contributions to his campaign.
While Musk has previously advocated for a Republican Congress in the US midterm elections to counterbalance Joe Biden's Democrats, he has emphasized his political independence. Musk publicly stated that he voted for Biden in 2020 but has since criticized the President and clashed with the Biden administration.
In December of the previous year, Musk's mother accused Biden of obstructing her son's efforts to improve the world. Musk himself has stated that he would not vote for Biden again.
