Palestinian lawyers intensify their protests against Abbas

Image
Palestinian attorneys are steadfast in their opposition to legislation that "curbs rights and freedoms" and was enacted by presidential decree. A month after protests against President Mahmoud Abbas's acceptance of numerous "decisions by law" were started, the lawyers' confrontation with the Palestinian Authority intensified. These are allegedly illegal and ignore citizens' rights while strengthening the president's office's control. The Palestinian Bar Association has intensified the strikes, sit-ins, and other protests that have shut down the courts. The lawyers' demands have not yet received a response from the Palestinian Authority. Arab News was informed by high-ranking sources at the bar association that the protests would intensify. The controversy has brought the Palestinian Authority to the attention of international organizations and donor nations. Many people have expressed their dissatisfaction with the executive authority's...

UN: Libya's 'high volatility' calls for elections

Image
A senior UN official stated on Monday that Libya is locked in a constitutional and political impasse that has prompted escalating conflicts, a severe economic situation, and rallies across the nation by disgruntled residents. The overall situation in Libya is still "extremely dangerous," according to Assistant Secretary-General Martha Pobee, with tense security, "very troubling" displays of power, and intermittent violence by militias engaged in political scheming. She also brought up serious human rights concerns, including the alleged arrest by armed groups of dozens of protesters who participated in July 1 demonstrations protesting the deteriorating living conditions and calling for progress on elections. She also brought up a dispute over the leadership of the National Oil Corporation. Oil-rich Since Muammar Qaddafi's long-standing dictatorship was overthrown and killed in 2011, Libya has been torn apart by conflict. Rival governments—one in the east support...

Rising autonomy in the Middle East

Image
President Biden's trip to the Middle East is a continuation of US diplomacy there over a long period of time, including efforts to protect Israel's security and oppose Iran's nuclear program. However, there is also an urgent need for Middle Eastern oil and gas gave the global energy tensions brought on by the Ukraine crisis, particularly in Europe. The mission of President Biden's travel to the Middle East is also pretty clear: to show that the United States is still present there and to issue a warning to his "competitors" about trying to increase their influence there. Objectively, President Biden's trip to the Middle East did not produce any notable outcomes. In truth, there are significant gaps between current US views on Saudi Arabia, Israel, the JCPOA resurrection, and other topics, which severely limits the impact of President Biden's visit. In conclusion, despite the tardiness of President Biden's journey to the Middle East, it is obvious ...

Saudi Arabia Urged Residents To Respect The Sanctity Of Holy Sites

Image
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) urged residents on Friday to respect the sanctity of the holy sites after a Saudi citizen was arrested on charges of enabling a non-Muslim to enter Makkah, the holy site, illegally. Saudi Arabia arrested the man who assisted Israeli journalist Gil Tamary to enter Makkah illegally. Makkah is Islam’s holiest city and is off limits to non-Muslims. The journalist is the chief international editor and commentator for Channel 13 News in Israel. He was in Jeddah last week covering US President Joe Biden’s visit to the Kingdom.  Sheikh Abdulrahman Al-Sudais, president of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, said that the sanctity of the Two Holy Mosques in the country was a line that could not be crossed. He said that any violation would not be tolerated. Makkah Police said they had referred the Saudi citizen to Public Prosecution for helping a non-Muslim journalist with United States citizenship to enter Makkah. The police...

Saudi Arabia And Japan Reaffirm Close Bilateral Ties

Image
Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Japan’s Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi held bilateral talks on Tuesday in Tokyo, the capital of Japan, further strengthening the cooperation between the two countries. The Japanese foreign minister expressed his gratitude to Saudi Arabia for its condolences sent after the death of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Hayashi reportedly said, “I welcome the cooperation between both countries, such as the telephone call between Japanese Prime Minister Kishida and his royal highness Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman.” He further said, “I hope that the bilateral ties will be further strengthened.” Japan’s current Prime Minister Fumio Kishida also received a call from Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, during his visit to Japan. Prince Faisal bin Farhan said that Saudi Arabia wants to further strengthen its relationship with Japan through cooperation in vario...

The change of fortune for Ennahda Movement

Image
The Islamist organization Ennahda reemerged in Tunisia after the Jasmine Revolution of 2011, and it has regularly been the largest party in parliament and the deciding factor in coalition governments.  As a result, it has taken the brunt of the growing discontent among many Tunisians with its post-revolutionary political structure. Ennahda and its leader, Rached Ghannouchi, have attempted to fight the coup since President Kais Saied's seizure of power in July 2021 and the following dissolution of parliament without inciting a violent crackdown by the state or losing allies and party supporters. Nevertheless, Tunisian courts barred Ghannouchi from leaving the country and froze the bank accounts of some Ennahda leaders in the run-up to a national referendum that was supposed to take place on July 25 to ratify a new draught constitution. In its early years, Ennahda was known as the Movement of Islamic Tendency (MTI). It was started as a movement, following in the footsteps of o...
