UN asked to intervene in Iran after the arrest of two women whose families were victims of violence
The United Nations has been asked to intervene in a matter of Iran by the leaders of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), who demanded the release of two women after their families were found to be targets of the Iranian regime.
As per reports, the Iranian regime has used violence on the families of these two women, one of which is a political prisoner. NCRI gave its report to the UN saying that Iran’s Revolutionary Guard had forcibly removed political prisoner Maryam Akbari from a women’s ward and transferred her to Semnan Prison.
This was after 12 years she had already stayed in Evin Prison. The NCRI president Maryam Rajavi said that even though prisoners protested and stood against their call, IRG had physically dragged Akbaru Monfared from the cell and also hurt her while doing so. The union’s president also told the United Nations that Iran’s regime had already executed three of Akbari Monfared’s brothers and a sister.
The details were also given by her. The report revealed that Alireza Akbari, who was a member of the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), was already executed in 1981 and Gholamreza Akbari was also executed in 1985. The younger brother was also a member of the same organization. Roghiyeh Akbari was executed during the 1988 massacre.
Rajavi stressed the urgent need for attention that should be given to another female prisoner who has been subjected to grave violence by the Iranian regime. Her name is Golrokh Ebrahimi Eraei and she was taken to Amol Prison in the Northern part of Iran on January 26 this year following her arrest in Qarchak Prison in Varamin.
She added, ““On International Women's Day, the Iranian Resistance strongly condemns the forcible exile of Maryam Akbari Monfared and Golrokh Ebrahimi Eraei.” Other than her, other NCRI leaders also seek the help of the UN and other Western countries in putting pressure on Iran and allow some considerations and welfare schemes to take place for imprisoners especially women.
“We urge the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and international human rights organizations to take immediate action to secure the release of these two resilient women political prisoners,” NCRI wrote in the letter.
This is not the first time that Rajavi has asked for western countries to interfere. She has been seeking help from the UN along with other organizations to visit the country and see for themselves how the clerical regime is hampering the lives of people in the troubled country.
